Biological Sampling

Biological Sampling

We carry out biological sampling in fracture clinics and prosthetic laboratories to measure staff exposure to Diisocyanates.

Which departments use Diisocyanates?

Diisocyanates are being used in a wider variety of medical departments and in larger volumes than ever before.

They are now used more often in fracture clinics, due to the move away from plaster of Paris towards synthetic products. They are also being used in prosthetic laboratories where the use of resins is becoming more commonplace.

This increase in usage, along with the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) adopting the guidance from the European Union in regard to training for workers, has highlighted the importance of monitoring staff exposure.

Biological Sampling for Diisocyanates.

We recommend that sampling should be carried out every 12 months to ensure continued compliance with Regulation 10 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations 2002 (as amended).

If you are unsure whether or not your department is using products that contain diisocyanates, our team are happy to look through the product material data sheets on your behalf.
