Histopathology Labs

Histopathology Labs

Staff in histopathology departments are regularly exposed to hazardous substances formaldehyde and xylene whilst examining storing or disposing of tissue samples, or processing samples for routine assessment.

We provide workplace monitoring to ensure that histopathology staff exposure to these chemicals remains within Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) during sample cut ups, sample disposal and changing of solutions in the tissue processors.

On completion of the monitoring period, our monitoring consultant will produce a report which will outline detected exposure levels and compare them to Workplace Exposure Limits as set out in HSE Publication EH40/2005. Where necessary, any issues will be reported and recommended further action will be given.
