Don’t risk cold hands during kidney transplants
When it comes to kidney transplants, surgeons can experience very cold hands when ice water is used during the procedure to help cool and preserve the donor kidney.
Whilst this ice water reduces the risk of damage to the organ during the transplant process, it can obviously lead to discomfort for the transplant surgeon.
That is where the DryMax Sterile absorbent mat comes in useful, specifically by helping to absorb the icy water, which makes it more comfortable for the hands.
This latex-free mat measures 72cm x 37 cm in size and absorbs from both sides. It can be used flat or folded and can be placed next to the body of the patient to minimise the risk of surgical site infections.
By absorbing up to 6 litres of water or 2.4l of saline and turning it rapidly to gel, the DryMax Sterile mat wicks away cold water quickly, leaving both the patient and the surgeon more comfortable.
The mats can then be disposed of easily in clinical waste, without risk of cross-contamination, slips or delays to theatre turnaround that can result from dripping mat alternatives.
